ROSSLYN BAY FISHERMANS MARKET YEPPOON - Our Company & Our Seafood

"Fish should swim three times, once in water, then in butter and last of all in good wine" (anon)

The  business was  first established in 1982 as a Primary Producer’s Co-operative after the Queensland Fish Board  became defunct.  The business was run under the strict guidelines of a co-operative and after 23 years in business the directors decided that they had gone as far as they could go in a business within that format and began to look for someone in private enterprise to whom they could sell the business and who could expand with  much freer guidelines and with fresh ideas.

BartlettSince operating as a private enterprise since 2005,  there has been a major upgrade of the retail outlet and the computerization of the wholesale area.     The business has always contributed a great deal to the local economy both as a local employer and as a marketer of local produce.

Although the Fishing Industry is doing it tough with new regulations including the restrictions of quotas, limited zones to fish and numerous closures the business has managed to source enough product to provide the quantity and quality seafood to the local and extended Queensland areas and maintain the tradition  of being the major supplier of local seafood in Central Queensland.

We have seen a decrease in the numbers of trawlers and fishing boats because of the buy back scheme implemented by the Government and it’s a full time job sourcing new suppliers and maintaining a continuous supply to a “local seafood hungry public”.

We are licensed by Seafood Services Australia and all our labeling complies with the Australian Fish Names Standard AS SSA5300.
